Waterford Gag

Two rope gag reins run through the centre of the side rings; any pressure on these gag reins results in the mouthpiece moving upwards in the horse’s mouth and in turn placing pressure on the horses poll and mouth areas. This bit contains multiple ball bearings which make up the mouthpiece. The ball bearings are connected to each other giving the bit a flexible modality thus not causing a nutcracker effect whilst helping to encourage the horse to keep its jaw relaxed. This bit is useful for horses that lean on the bit or take hold of the bit as the bit with its ball shaped links allows movement in the mouth, preventing the horse from holding onto the bit, leaning or setting its jaw.

An important point to remember with all Waterford bits (excluding the Waterford Pelham) is that they should be ¼” to ½” longer than your horse’s usual mouthpiece as the mouthpiece needs to curve slightly around the horse’s mouth.
